I'm not interested in any British/American rivalry thing here, but if you want an excellent example of someone waltzing in and doing someone's job FAR better than they are doing it themselves, have a look at Russell Brand on an American chat show called Morning Joe.

There are no less than three interviewers and not a one of them seems able to actually ask any intelligent questions - they keep talking amongst themselves and just don't seem capable of doing the job they're presumably being paid quite a lot to do. Russell does a brilliant job of rubbing that in their faces while being polite and intelligent and funny, while the three interviewers are incredibly rude, but they don't even seem to be doing it on purpose. They just come over as incompetent and rather stupid. It's well worth a watch.

Oh, my word. That was excellent.

I haven't really taken to him before, but after one of his articles that I read some months ago, and then this, I'm just bowled over. He's very, very intelligent and quick, isn't he? And it's delightful seeing him deflate those puffed-up sacks of hot air, hair and make-up (man included).

Yes, that's one of the things that particularly impressed me. I'm not sure I've ever seen his stand-up, just the occasional quiz show or something, but it's obvious from this that he is extremely intelligent and thoughtful. I just couldn't believe how totally shallow and unprepared the interviewers were - they didn't seem to have any questions worked out, and if I were them, I would be suing my agent for not warning me what he can be like! And how their bosses can watch that interview and not sack the lot of them, I just don't know.

I guess it's the stand-up that makes him so quick on his feet; I'm not sure I could even say "casual objectification" without a few dry runs, never mind think of it in the heat of the moment.
