Doctor Who - The God Complex
So, Doctor Who. Very briefly, because I basically fell asleep half an hour ago.

I liked this episode rather a lot. I thought a lot of the things that it said about religion were interesting.

Like - it’s having faith that killed them. Only people who put aside their faith and thought for themselves could survive.

Hmm, the whole “Amy Williams” thing... It came over to me like “I don’t think I should keep you any more, it’s too dangerous, and so I’m handing you over to your husband. At last.”

As in, as long as she’s with the Doctor, she’s Amy Pond, because that’s what he wants to call her. But as soon as he’s ready to ditch her for whatever reason, she’s Amy Williams, because that’s what Rory wants to call her.

Did anybody ever ask Amy what she wanted to be called?

(Declaring a point of view here - even if I did ever get married, I would keep my own name. My. Name. Oh go on, yeah, I know it’s my name because it was my father’s name, but the point is, it’s the one I was born with.)

And I totally took it for granted it was the Master he saw in that room, but I see da internetz thinks differently. Most people seem to assume it was the Doctor.

Yes, I've just seen that, and commented! It's a good story, and very plausible.

Well it was left wide open as to who he saw, wasn't it? I mean, on one level, his greatest fear being himself fits with Moffat's series arc, but a lot of the fears were more abstract than that. I assumed the Master, tbh, probably because I'm a bit of a Doctor/Master shipper, but also because that would symbolise the whole 'last of the timelords' thing quite well, but I also wondered if it was a room full of traumatised ex-companions - that's been a strong theme throughout and in that episode too. But, yes, I think the beauty of it was leaving it open.

I took 'Amy Williams' to symbolize 'there's another fabulous life with the other person you love out there for you, and you can have that too'. I was most annoyed that the Doctor didn't say goodbye to Rory - they've had a pretty close relationship too.

lol

Your take on the "Amy Williams" thing is a lot more charitable than mine, and I quite like it. The speech where he ripped apart her faith in him was very well done, I felt. It was exactly what he needed to say to make her see him clearly, and it's all true.

the Doctor didn't say goodbye to Rory

I'd forgotten that. That's either pretty unforgivable or a strong sign that we'll see them again in the series finale.
