Enough. Stop Now.
It's not been the best of weeks so far. I got stopped by the police on my way home on Saturday afternoon and they told me, very politely, that my MOT had run out. As it was only by two days, and you don't get a reminder, they said they'd let me off, and I would need to go straight home and not use the car again until I took it for a pre-booked MOT. Hence the fic (Thank You, Gene).

So I've had to send youngest son to school in a taxi this morning (village five miles away, no public transport, no other car, dangerous narrow winding hilly roads and his bike's broken anyway - £15 each way) and I'm going to be raiding piggy banks to pay the taxi home again.

And I really can't convince myself the car is going to pass the MOT, and how I'm going to pay for repairs I really don't know. OH is already panicking about how he's going to pay the instalment on his work vehicle on Thursday, and he's earned almost nothing recently because of visiting his Mum in hospital.

And he's just phoned me to say she died an hour ago, just before he got there. She seemed fine when I saw her on Thursday, if a little weak, but apparently the chest infection was just too much.

She always annoyed the hell out of OH, but she was a kind, sharp-witted and fun person who I liked very much. And that's likely to be her only obituary, so I'll say it again:

RIP Dorothy Cook

Born 11th May 1921 Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, England.

Died 19th January 2009, Woolwich, London, England.

A kind, sharp-witted and fun person who I liked very much

and a terrific and caring "Nana" to her three grandchildren.

And now I have to phone her sister's carers to get them to tell her the news.

Fuck on, what a crappy week! I'm so sorry for your family's loss, you make Ms. Cook sound like a very wonderful person to have known. *hugs*

As for the car shit, omg, I feel it, you know I do. Wish I had easy answers, but all I can say is "hang in there."

2009 is getting mopped by the remnants of 2008, here. It really is time for things to improve. Like, now. *frowns*

I had to phone her sister and tell her the news. She was obviously very upset, not least because she didn't even know Doff was in hospital. I tried ringing a number of times last week, but the phone was never answered, and as I didn't realise how things were going I left it for a few days.

I hate cars. They're great for getting about in your own time and your own space (that wasn't meant to be a Doctor Who reference by the way!) but when they go wrong it's expensive.

Thanks for being there *hugs*

Oh, my God, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry.
After this, Things gonna be alright again, you know. You, a gentle caring mother of your children, just believe in yourself and your family.
My heart goes out to you.

So sorry to hear this, my dear. You clearly remember her fondly, which is a great thing to hold on to.

I can't believe quite how crap 2009 has been so far for so many of my friends - as the others say above, surely it can only get better.

*hugs you squishily*
