Can it really be two years?
On this day (kids back to school after Easter) two years ago, I took my first tiny steps into fandom, and internet fandom at that. On that day I joined TRA and made my first post. That post became the basis for An Unhappy Man, which I started writing about six or seven weeks later.

I have no idea what I did this day last year, although I will look it up later if I get a chance.

And today - well, today I actually find myself getting quite excited about Ashes to Ashes this evening, albeit in a sort of "almost too scared to watch" kind of way. I know it's not long now, because the trolls are out at TRA *sigh*

What is it with these people? There are always going to be people who prefer Life on Mars, or who think Ashes to Ashes is superior, and that's fine. But why does it have to be a competition? What part of these people's brains makes them think that if we don't all totally adore Ashes and agree that it's better and Mars was rubbish then we deserve to be trolled? Sheesh. I do know I'm going to be a lot quicker off the mark with reporting nasty posts this year; the whole thing just got very unpleasant last year.

Anyway, Simpsons is over, dinner is burning, kids are yelling.

Time to go.

ETA: Just read Matthew’s interview with SFX:

Do you think you picked up a more female audience?

Definitely. The Galex crowd as they’re called, who are obsessed with Gene and Alex. There was a strong female following that started to gather momentum, that wanted to see these two getting it on.

There was actually a momentum in Life on Mars to see Sam and Gene getting it on, but that was a whole other fan fiction side of things that we don’t have to go into! That was probably called Gaylicks…

Gaylicks? WTF? XD

Actually, I don't think the Sam/Gene fans need to smoosh the name together. :) And why shouldn't we get into it? I think it's something that should be addressed, because clearly there was something going on. y/y?

clearly there was something going on. y/y?

That would be a yes. And when the writer finally admits it, you know it's canon.

And why shouldn't we get into it?

I think he just didn't want to deflect attention from the point of the interview, which was to promote Ashes, that's all. Amusing, though!

I am intrigued to see how A2A will be tonight, and *whispers* I am looking forward to it, too. Gene Hunt back on my TV screen for an hour?! Oh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. *g*

Thanks - it's amazing how fast and how slow the past two years have gone. They have utterly changed my life in terms of how I see myself (and how I spend far too much of my time!)

I was very nervous before the ep tonight, but I was captivated from start to finish. Loved it!

And Phil was just glorious tonight, I thought.

I had to read the interview because I couldn't believe that he actually said that. I'm glad he did, though. I always like it when creators/producers/actors are aware of the fandom.

ACH! Stupid fandom wars! Why must someone's opinion be superior? (They need to get the superiority stick out of their ass...) And good luck with the reporting. Keep the forums bloodless, soldier!

I haven't had time to read the whole thing, but that just leapt out at me.

Yeah, the whole bitchy/nasty side of fandom is just so annoying and pathetic. Honestly, if people acted like that in real life they'd be beaten up or arrested or something.

*checks time*

Way past my bedtime, I think - I only got three hours sleep last night, and I'm getting up in six and a bit.
