Fic - The Only One, White Cortina, by DorsetGirl (Survival Series)

Title:    The Only One (Survival Series)

Author: DorsetGirl

Fandom: Life on Mars

Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters or their universe. BBC/Kudos do. I’m not making any money out of this.

Rating: White Cortina

Pairings: Sam/Gene

Word Count:  100

Summary: A brief look at Gene on Sam’s first night in hospital

A/N: A fairly extreme case of Real Life has meant that I haven’t been around much this year apart from the drabble challenges. However, I’m still very much in the fandom, and still writing when I get time. If anyone remembers my Survival series, I haven’t forgotten it for a moment, and I have several stories for it almost finished. When RL lets up for a moment I hope to get those done and posted.

In the meantime, this drabble was originally the opening paragraph to another story for the series, but Annie took that over and turned it into a Porntober wank!fic (which should be posted soon) so I thought I’d rescue this and post it separately.

The scene takes place the same evening as Watching, after the events described in Out to Lunch

The Only One

The tears had dried, the story of their miraculous coming-together long told. Gene had been drinking steadily for hours and the exhaustion of terror was winning.

“Come on, Guv, give me the glass now, you need to get some kip. Be ready for Sam when he wakes up, OK? He’s going to need you nice and strong.”

“Was the only one I ever wanted,” Gene slurred, his head beginning to drop.

“I know.” She smiled at him affectionately. “Knew before you did, I reckon.” She took the glass deftly as it tilted across his lap.

“My Sam... only one...”
