Seasonal and Topical - An Occasional Drabble Thingy
Hello and welcome to the fourth Seasonal and Topical Drabble Thingy; it’s school half-term here which is why I’m running so late with this - sorry!

I haven’t had time to check the BBC site as I was out all day yesterday, so I’m going for the easy option this week and looking at my own calendar. So we have:

Half-Term [or Holiday in general]

Valentine’s Day

(um, better late than never on that last one!)

I’m hoping to have time for a go myself later on today, but don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

Post your drabble as a comment to this post, and if you have any ideas for future seasonal prompts, let me know by PM. I may also use the occasional completely random prompt if something occurs to me.

The rules are minimal - One hundred words exactly, and be polite when commenting!
You can write any fandom or original fiction, any pairing or none.
You don’t even have to write in English if you don’t want to.

Please note that if you do choose to write in another language, I can't promise to comment beyond a simple "Thank You", although I will do my best via Google! A rough translation would be lovely, but is not essential. The translation does not have to be 100 words, nor does it need to be polished or “good English”. Just the gist is fine, to put across the idea.

And don’t forget, as long as you are confident that your response meets one of the prompts, that’s good enough for me.

A Trip to Weston-super-Mare (Doctor Who)

with thanks to the daughter for her dramaticising of our story

The repairs on the TARDIS weren’t going well, so the Doctor suggested having a break. “It’ll be like a little holiday,” he said, “It’ll be fun.”

The Master had never shared the Doctor’s enthusiasms and was mortified when he discovered it involved travelling by train with the general public.

His mood improved when they reached the seaside and a seagull used the Doctor’s head for target practice. He thought it even funnier when the Doctor went for a paddle and got extremely muddy. And best of all, they discovered that candy floss was what they needed to repair the TARDIS.

Re: A Trip to Weston-super-Mare (Doctor Who)

Nice characterisation! It would be so like the Doctor to enjoy travelling by train with everyone else, and the Master to be disdainful about it.

And as long as that's Ten with birdshit on his head, I'm happy!

But of course. In my mind Doctor/Master is always Ten/Simm.

Birthday and Valentine's Day (Life on Mars, Sam/Gene)

“It’s not fair.”

“What isn’t, Gladys?”

“My birthday being Valentine’s Day.”

“How so? Got your chocolates, haven’t you?”

“Well, yes.”

“Got your roses this morning?”

“Going out to dinner tonight?”

“We always do.”

“So how are you losing out?”

“You’ll laugh.”

“Always do. Tell me?”

“I never get a cake.”

“Give me strength. I got you roses, a huge card with a padded heart, the biggest box of chocolates
they had...”

“ I know, and I love all that, really, just...”

“You want a cake too.”

“Yes. Sorry.”

“Good job I got you one then.”

“Aw, you shouldn’t have...”

Valentine's Day (Life on Mars, Sam/Gene)

Before he came here, Sam had never given much thought to Valentine’s Day. It was just for teenagers, after all, and he’d done that bit many years ago. He still had the cards to prove it: sweet nothings and mysterious kisses from Lucy, Maria, Daisy - all forgotten now except by his mum.

She never saw the card he got from Danny.

Then in 1974 he got a card in strangely familiar handwriting. Despite the obvious attempt to disguise it, he knew it wasn’t from Annie or Phyllis or even Gwen.

He’ll always treasure the card he got from Gene.

Valentine's Day (Life on Mars, Sam/Gene)

He didn’t know why he’d even done it. Wasn’t like he cared, after all.

But it had looked so sweet in the shop.

So right.

And before he knew what he’d done, it was in his pocket.

Paid for, obviously. Six inches by four of pure pink fluff, burning a hole in his coat. He hadn’t bought a Valentine’s card since Margaret Wilson in his last year at school.

He hadn’t cared then, either, and he’d shrugged when she dumped him for someone with more money.

All in all, best not to think too much about who this is for.

Re: Valentine's Day (Life on Mars, Sam/Gene)

Sweet. I'm sure it will be appreciated.
