I suppose by now we're all resigned to the fact that Philip doesn't win these things; that his genius in creating Gene - and completely re-building him in the very last hour - just doesn't get recognised; but for God's sake,

Who chose that clip last night?

Even at the time that scene made me cringe as being on the very limits of Gene's character and as making him look really bad. Why couldn't they have chosen something from 3.08? There were a lot of examples of simply stunning acting there.

Phil, I know you'll never read this but: there were bits of 3.08 that were the best and most moving work I have ever seen. You rock, truly.

I can't remember which ep it was in; it was in Luigi's, where Keats comes in and Gene looks up at him and says, "Thank you, Jim." Just for a moment it looks as if he's being genuine, and then he stands up and carries on to be a complete and utter arsehole, with Keats at the bar looking shocked, Alex cringing in horror next to Gene, and Chris and Ray giggling.

Sorry, that's a useless descrription, because I can't remember what he actually says!

Bless the man, he deserves so much better.

Great icon, though I don't recognise the pic. Is it Rupert?

He so does. Gene has become a national figure and it's Phil's beautiful acting which has put him there.

It's Gene in 2x02. The scene where Sam and Annie are discussing Woolf and Gene interrupts with 'Have to tell me what?' and he looks into his glass as he says 'glances across the canteen' etc and looks so sad about how close he thinks Sam and Annie are becoming before he goes into the 'youngest blonde in the typing pool' line. As you can probably tell, I love that moment. :D Who's Rupert?
