Bollocks to 'em, I say
So, it's middle son's birthday treat today; we had to bring it forward from tomorrow at short notice because OH has booked himself to do something else. Something fun, of his choice. And now OH is in a foul mood because I asked him not to keep over-filling the kettle so it overflows all over the fucking base and the worktop. And oldest son won't even get out of fucking bed although he said he would come with us, because he was expecting it to be tomorrow. And because he just does that sort of thing; it's not entirely unexpected, but I don't know what he thinks he's going to eat tonight.

Anyway, we're going to see Sherlock Holmes, and then we're going to middle son's restaurant of choice, Frankie & Benny's, which is usually good value. I've just got to get there without hurting someone...

Testing out the new comments system

Right, I'm a bit confused now, because this still looks the same as before, but on lifein1973 the shitty new system was in evidence. I seem to still have subject lines and a preview button, and also - majorly important - a nice, simple NON-GRAPHIC drop-down list for selecting a userpic.

Anyway, we had a good evening in the end. I found the film quite tedious for at least the first hour - incredibly static dialogue pieces interspersed with very confusing action sequences (I simply couldn't work out who was doing what to whom, nor why. "Why", of course, is seldom answered by anything other than "Because the director is a man and he thinks the audience all are too.") But by the time we got to the Opera it had started to warm up and overall I would say I definitely enjoyed it.

I've never read the Sherlock Holmes books but I did eventually catch on to the fact that these were the Reichenbach falls and what happened there!
